Barrenlands Beauty

Geoff Hinchliffe was our speaker on this occasion.  He told us how the sad occasion of his mother's death left him with sufficient money to be able to live his dream of travelling and what better place than the Canadian Arctic.  Words here cannot do justice to the stunning pictures he was able to show us in the same way as the pictures could not do justice to the beauty of the real thing.

In such conditions, very cold in winter yet shirt sleeve weather in summer, many tiny yet quite exotic plants can really flourish and Geoff had photos and names of many of them.

There was a really good turn out for this talk and quite a few questions afterwards so it clearly captured the imagination of the audience - but all credit to Geoff who is a good speaker and made the talk with both his photos and his banter.

Thanks also went to Cathy and Alf for all the work they've done in the past keeping the refreshments going and they were presented with small gifts.

Jane announced a Member of the Year plate and members present were asked to cast a secret vote for the club person they felt would be most deserving of this award.  The winner will be announced shortly.

Details of the Christmas meal were announced and members were invited to choose their food on the day.  We are limited to 40 people on a first come first served basis.  If you haven't got your name down and are interested please call Jane now.  No promises as all places might be taken but if you're quick you might be lucky.
