On WEDNESDAY 13th MAY we went on our first outside visit to Narborough Hall Gardens. 16 members turned out on a dreary rain spattered evening, naturally the first wet night for weeks! However, were we in for a treat!! Really, one of the most beautiful venues we’ve ever visited. Set in 18th C parkland by the river Nar, the house is surrounded by lakes and gardens, it is a classic English garden, created by owner Joanne Merrison, a Gold Medal winner at Sandringham Flower Show. It is sumptuously planted and featured  ancient wisterias against the front of the house and many more recently planted ones around the grounds, fabulous at this time of year. There were many different gardens, kitchen, blue, plum and chocolate borders, pastel, Madonna, walled and wild to name a few! Greatly influenced by her children, it was a gorgeously feminine garden, exquisitely planted and tended. A joy to behold. We all intend to return when their roses are in full bloom. Lots more to do there too, with willow weaving courses, (the grounds are full of them) and art courses as well as lots of children’s events. A Norfolk jewel!
