Bringing you up to date
21 May 2008
On WED. 14th MAY 20 members visited BLOOMS OF BRESSINGHAM, we had a wonderful guided tour of The Dell Gardens by Andrew Bailey, they looked lush and beautiful with azaleas and hostas in their prime and lots of other exotic plants in Blooms typical island beds in undulating surroundings. They were magnificent and well worth the visit. Andrew even made us all refreshments afterwards in the café. We welcomed a new member, Gillian Bell. We had several apologies, from Mike our Chairman, who is still poorly and from Carol Halford who has been in hospital, we all wish her a speedy recovery, and from Chris Halford.  Also John Unsworth and Brian and Annie Brooker.

HORN FAIR : SATURDAY 17TH MAY As a gardening club we had our usual PLANT STALL and also our very popular TEA STALL. Both stalls did very well especially considering the inclement weather and we managed to raise a good amount to support our forthcoming Programme. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who gave of their time on the day and for all that our members provided, it was a great team effort. Our special thanks to Cees and Jill for the use of their kitchen facilities, we really could not do it without them! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU HARD WORK. We also had a good time at the after horn Fair Social at Jane & Chris’ on the Saturday night. Thanks to all who came along.

Our next outside visit is to ‘THE GARDEN IN AN ORCHARD', on Wednesday, 11th JUNE. Mill rd. Bergh Apton. We leave the village green at 6pm and hope to arrive at 7pm. Our hosts are Mr and Mrs R.W. Boardman. This is a new garden to the Norfolk Garden Scheme and should be very interesting to see. Do join us. Visitors £2.50, members £1. Remember fuel is very expensive and so if you are lucky enough to get a lift please give a donation towards the cost. As a rough guideline we reckon about £1 per 10 miles if there’s 4 people to a car. Thank you. We hope for a fine evening and a good turnout.

Tudor House and Much More........
14 April 2008

Our first outside meeting was on Wednesday 9th April, with a visit to the Tudor Museum and Ancient House Gardens,White Hart Street, Thetford.

Although the garden is very tiny it was interesting to see the authentic planting and reconstruction and the Museum has improved beyond belief since I last saw it, well worth a visit. It tells the remarkable history of Thetford, with Thomas Paine and the Maharajah Duleep Singh and of the Brecks, with rabbit warreners to railway workers. It has lots of fascinating collections and audio stories of families arriving in Thetford after the war, even a replica of the Thetford Treasure. It was such a shame that only 12 members managed to come along.

Please do try to come to the outside visits as they take a lot of organising and they are often very expensive as staff have to be paid extra to man the events in the evenings.  This especially applies to our visit in May.  It is to BLOOMS OF BRESSINGHAM on WED. 14th MAY. We leave the village green at 6pm. to arrive at 6.45pm. This is incredible value at just £1 to members as they are charging £6 per head for visitors and even this is fantastic as we are getting a talk and guided walk round the Dell Gardens and Foggy Bottom as well as refreshments in the café. This tour is charged at £12.50 in the RHS magazine so we are very lucky. Do make the most of the opportunity. Visitors very welcome.
